The summer Olympics held in London reminds me how Great Leaders, like great Olympic and World Champion athletes have programed their brains to go for the gold. How you think is directly related to what you have programed or put into your head. The difference between a Great Leader and a mediocre one is the fueling of the brain ( the same is true of great athletes as well).
How you think, is directly related to the information you put into your brain. When I was in graduate school I learn the concept of GIGO ( Garbage In Garbage Out). A computer will only produce what it was programed to do. If the information going in was wrong, the outcome will also be wrong. Like adding a list of numbers on a calculator. If you enter the data wrong, your sum will be wrong. The same is true of our brains. How we respond to circumstances, is a direct mirror image of the information that was put into our brains.
So, how do you “Go For the Gold?” How do you feed your brain good information. Here are several ways:
– Read good information. – Do you know that most people stop reading after they leave school? Here are some interesting facts for you.
- The top 5% income earners (157K +) in America read 2-3 hours every day
- The top 19% income earners read 5-7 books a year as well as Barons, and the Wall Street Journal
- Bottom income earners do not read at all
- 80% of Americans did not buy or read a book last year
- Leaders read positive, uplifting , and educational texts
– Watch Less TV, especially the TV News. The News is depressing by nature. Negative stories sell and when there is a catastrophe … the news can go on for hour and hours. This negative information can paralyze brain from moving forward.
- Do you know the average person sees 30,000 commercials a year?
- The affluent watch 50-60% less television than lower income levels
– Look at the people around you. Who are the people you associate with? Do you surround yourself with like minded people who can support you in reaching your goals? It has been said that there are 3 types of people
- Those that can help you- they talk about concepts, and ideas… always looking to support and nurture.
- Those that can hurt you- they talk about other people, they are usually negative and condescending.
- Those that don’t matter- they talk about things and stuff.
Bottom line, if you want to go for the “Gold” then you need to be aware of the people around you, what you read, what you watch, and listen to.
